Renaissance

Click on the website address below and you will find a site which details the period of time in history known as the "rebirth" or renaissance...Read the introduction (very short), then one main section each day, Monday thru Friday, and write a brief desription of what you learned. Key in on main themes and people and ask yourself, what is it that renaissance thinkers considered to be "reborn" during this period and what importance does this period have on our modern world...For fun (and some extra credit points, try the interactive challenges along the way and let me know your results) Enjoy!!

NOTE CHANGES and The Middle Ages

This week AND next week's HW assignments will take us through the period known as the middle ages - between antiquity and modernity...The period was anything but average however...lots of interesting events, people, places, and ideas to study...The website below is from Boise State University's Western Civilization curriculum - while I do not agree with all of the profs views/conclusions, it is a very helpful and thorough resource - your assignment is to read the following sections COMPLETELY on the day assigned and write a brief summary of each section, pointing out the 5 things you thought were most IMPORTANT, or most historically significant, in each section. Upon the first Monday after our return from Easter break, we will have a test on the Middle Ages that will include both class material AND material you have read in connection with this assignment...I encourage you to read carefully and take notes if that will help you study and retain information...I feel this will be very good preparation for you - many tests taken in college settings will be tests that focus on reading assignments and you will need to be ready for them...have a great week!

NOTE *** GUYS PLEASE READ BELOW for advise on how best to do the assignment ***

read each section under the headings...I recommend though that you just read the sections one after the other, like you're reading a history book...As you read, just jot down the MAIN people and events..just a word or sentence to help you remember is all you need..Be careful not to get too bogged down in trying to remember every little detail - I will test on main things only and you can use your notes to help you study. I think you think I expect you to grasp and remember every little thing - not so...please don't be stressed about it though - I know that this HW is more lengthy and detailed...Do the very best you can and work hard at it - remember you will not be tested on this material under after you return from Easter break... You'll have to do a lot of this kind of thing in college - this is just the first chance to get used to it and prepare for this type of assignment...Talk to you soon.
